Matthew Goode, Mark Strong and Rory Kinnear Join Cast of 'The Imitation Game'

Matthew Goode (Stoker), Mark Strong (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and Rory Kinnear (Skyfall) have joined Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley in indie movie drama The Imitation Game.

Charles Dance (Gosford Park), Allen Leech (In Fear, TV’s Downton Abbey) and Matthew Beard (An Education) will also turn out for the movie, directed by Norwegian filmmaker Morten Tyldum (Headhunters) from a screenplay by Graham Moore, based on the book Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges.

The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness, "Sherlock") and Keira Knightley ("Pirates of the Caribbean" films, Pride & Prejudice), began principal photography in the UK yesterday. The film is a dramatic portrayal of the life and work of one of Britain's most extraordinary unsung heroes, Alan Turing.

Matthew Goode Joins Benedict Cumberbathc in "The Imitation Game"

Norwegian director Morten Tyldum is helming the film about British mathematician Turing (Cumberbatch), who helped the Allies defeat the Germans by cracking the enemy’s “Enigma Code” during WWII, but a decade later was prosecuted by his own government for being a homosexual. Rather than take a prison sentence, he chose chemical castration, an act that would lead him into the pits of depression and ultimately suicide. Goode will play fellow code-hacker Hugh Alexander, while Knightley is lining up the role of Joan Clarke, another co-worker who was briefly engaged to Turing before he came out to her.

• Benedict Cumberbatch comes to Bletchley Park

Cumberbatch is set to play Bletchley Park mathematician Alan Turning to follow his story and his work on the Enigma code during World War II. The film will also examine Turing’s role in breaking the Enigma cipher as well as the treatment he received after revealing his homosexuality in 1952.

The Imitation Game will have it’s release date announced in 2015 and will be based on Andrew Hodges’ biography Bletchley Park’s Alan Turing: The Enigma.

British actress Keira Knightley is in talks to join Benedict Cumberbatchin “The Imitation Game”, the biopic of tortured mathematical genius Alan Turing, according to Variety. Benedict was cast back in February, taking over the lead role that had once been earmarked for Leonardo Dicaprio.
